Renewal Will Frustrate You If...You Have Grown Content With God Not Showing Up

In his latest book, Forgotten God, Francis Chan makes the point that the greatest fear most people have is not that God will not show up, but that He will.   Rather than being grieved by missing the activity of God, Chan says that most Christians have more fear of what might happen if He does show up.  What would need to change?  What would be exposed?  What would happen to my stable life?

The beauty of the last nine months in my life has been a steady stream of evidence of God’s activity both in my life and in the life of those around me as I have been forced to trust that God would show up.  He consistently shows up, in ways that I would have never expected.

It’s a lot of fun.

And it’s very scary.

Being in a place where you are forced to depend on the provision of God is sadly not a reality for many Christians, and up until this point in my life has not been a consistent reality for me.  But now it is.

Right now, here are some things that I (and others at Renewal) are trusting God for:
  • God to use our church planting efforts to see 100 people trust Christ in the next year
  • God to give us five significant relationships with schools, community centers, or business within three miles of the church in Greenville that we can serve in order to establish a beachhead for the gospel.
  • God to use our church to start three other churches in our first two years of existence
  • God to give us a passion for foreign mission site that we can adopt to target our efforts overseas.
  • God to provide a space for Renewal to gather in the fall near the Laurens Rd. or Haywood Rd. area of Greenville
  • God to send us another elder to join with me in leading the mission of Renewal Church
  • God to send us 5 families that have grade school or teenage children who are willing to take a risk and join a bunch of young folks trusting Jesus to plant His church.
We don’t know how He will provide.  We don’t know when He will provide.

But we know that He will provide.

And he might provide through you.  You may be the answer to one of our prayers or you may be a person who can join us in trusting God in prayer for great things.  We invite you to enter the great journey of trusting a God who is always, only faithful.  Join us in praying for evidence of God’s grace in these areas and let’s see how He shows up.
