Multiplying Disciples: What You Can Do Today
As a church we have sought to make it our objective to multiply disciples to the glory of God. Throughout the narrative of the book of Acts, we have consistently been reminded that God is on mission in the world through his local church to see to it that every man, woman, and child has a repeated opportunity to see, hear, and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ.
To this end, it is my desire to remind you of a few things that you can do this week to partner with God in His mission in our world through the context of Renewal Church:
- Pray daily for the work of Renewal Church and the spread of the gospel in our city.
- Intentionally seek to connect with someone from Renewal Church outside of the Sunday morning gathering. Make a call, set up meal together, and take the time to get to know the people that you are partnering with. If your involvement in Renewal is limited to Sunday mornings, you will miss much of what it means to be meaningfully involved in a local church. These intentional interactions throughout the week are vital to our development as a body.
- Go on a walk. Take some time this week to go hang out in a public space and practice the art of being a “public Christian.” No tract distribution, no megaphone sermons, just spend time in public spaces seeking to meet and interact with those that God sovereignly places in your path.
- Bring someone with you on Sunday. As life begins to transition towards the summer, many of those that you live and work with may feel that they have more time to actually show up on Sunday. Don’t underestimate the value of connecting with folks and bringing them with you.
- Connect with a reGroup. There are four groups that are currently meeting in our city and these provide the most effective means we, as a church, have to get to know one another and promote holiness in the body. Do not waste this means of sanctification that God has provided.
- Don’t forget about our college students. Drop them a note, send an email, and/or make a phone call. One of the best ways God has graced us as a church is the ability to connect and love our college crew. Leverage this on a regular basis.
- Review the text for Sunday morning from Acts 12. Come prepared to meet with God by meditating on the text before you arrive. As you read, ask “What does this chapter have to do with the overall theme of the book of Acts?” Also, “As a Christian in the first century, how would the events of chapter 12 have affected your thoughts about God and your involvement in his mission?”
The mission of God will not wait on you. He is at work every day, all around us. Through sin, disobedience, or simple laziness many of us miss out on what God is doing. My prayer for you is that God would use these means to provoke your heart to pursue intimacy with Him. And as you pursue Him, He will change you.
Worship Well!
