What You Can Do For Me

Church Leader: You're Invited!

by Matt Rogers

In at least one way I am sure you are like me.

If I get another email invite to a training lab, coaching seminar, pastoral conference, or church-planting in a box event, I might pull out my goatee (that was an attempt at humor due to the fact that I have no hair).

Are You Connected?

by Matt Rogers

Often spiritual growth and development is thought of in terms of an event…something I attend or sign up for. The thought is that if I attend one more conference, hear another sermon, or have another mystical moment, then magically I will be transported to a desired height of spiritual attainment, and I will coast there until I die.

It's All Connected

As a pastor, there are many options for the ways I choose to invest my time and lead our church to embody the purposes for which she was created. While the options are numerous, the Scriptures define that my central role is to “equip the saints for the work of the ministry.”

What Do I Do With My Sunday Mornings? - Part 3

(Now that we've moved our corporate gatherings to Sunday evenings, what do you do with your Sunday mornings? This is part three in the series.)

If an isolated sheep is a dead sheep, an isolated shepherd is a useless shepherd.

Among other things the role of a shepherd is to:

Leadership Matters (Part 4): Transformational Teaching

“(an elder) must be able to teach.”
1 Timothy 3:2

Theological Clarity is worth nothing in a vacuum. Unless a leader has the ability to communicate rightly and skillfully to people, life transformation is slowed. Teaching for life transformation takes two primary forms in the life of an elder:

Active Teaching

Leadership Matters (Part 2): Spiritual Integrity

What qualifies one for leadership in the church?  This question is best answered looking from the perspective of the most often used picture of the church, that of the flock. As a flock, the church does not, and should not, blindly and mindlessly follow anyone, but should assess whether the shepherd is qualified to lead them, protect them, and care for their souls.

Reading the list of character qualities in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, the most striking thing on this list are the things that are not included.
